MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Education has released the results of the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) test, a non-formal education program designed to provide two levels of certification of learning achievement comparable to the formal elementary and secondary education system.

Last February, a total of 51,907 individuals took the A&E test, 5,688 of who are in elementary and 46,219 for high school.

Of this number 1,538 passed the elementary level test while 10,887 passed the high school level test.

Passers will be given temporary certificates prior to the issuance of the A&E Certificate signed by DepEd. These will be issued through DepEd regional and division offices as well as the DepEd Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS).

Likewise, the tests will be available at the DepEd website (www.deped.gov.ph).

The A&E allows out-of-school youth and adults to get certificates deemed comparable to the elementary certificate and secondary diploma.

The next A&E test is scheduled in February 2008.
